 "Faith and the Environment" Presentations
The first weekend of April, the United Church of Santa Fe offers a series of presentations on "Faith and the Environment," led by the Rev. Peter Sawtell, a UCC minister and executive director of Eco-Justice Ministries. Rev. Sawtell offers a presentation on Friday, April 4, at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, he will lead a workshop from 8:30 to 12:30 designed to help people connect their faith and their care for the environment. mixed-media opening at Java Joe’s
Victoria Seale is having an art opening and show of mixed media drawings at Java Joe’s, 2801 Rodeo Rd. in the Rodeo Plaza Shopping Center, corner of Rodeo and Camino Carlos Rey. The opening is April 4 from 5 to 7 p.m., and the show, which is called "Dreams of a Pale Horse," will be up until the 30th. The work combines drawing and collage to create surreal images of horses in interior spaces. The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening and have light refreshments.

New Rishikesh Ashram is presenting a first-of-its-kind workshop blending asana and art on Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Vedic Cultural Fellowship, 73 Camino Rincon in Pecos. This "Creative Yoga Workshop" is open for all levels and teaches how to join the yogic body with writing, drawing and painting. Tarnas at Center for Spiritual Living
Richard Tarnas, PhD, will present a talk called "At the Threshold of a New World View" on Friday, April 4, from 7 to 9 p.m., during which he will share his insights on action to reshape our future at this challenging time. On Saturday, April 5, from 9:30 to 5:00, Dr. Tarnas will conduct a workshop exploring evidence of planetary correlations with archetypal patterns shedding new light on the psyche. This astrological/cosmological perspective opens illuminating possibilities for cocreating our future. Both events happen at the Center for Spiritual Living, 505 Camino de Los Marquez in Santa Fe. SECOND IN A SERIES OF SOIREES IN ELDORADO
In the old times, before TV, video games and cheap airfares, people gathered together in small theaters and community rooms to meet each other, tell their stories, play music, have fun. People brought their dinner, and everyone talked and laughed. On Sunday, April 6, at 4 p.m. at the old Eldorado Train Station (next to the community center) you will be able to experience this same kind of event right here. "Series of Soirees" is a time and place to enjoy each other’s stories, rhythms, sounds and energy. The first soiree was sold out, so reserve your seats now. Each soiree is two hours long, ending with wine and cheese. Performers have 10 to 15 minutes and share the proceeds ($10 adults, $5 teens, kids free). What kind of performers? Anything that fits on a small stage: comedy, poetry, theater, music, dance, puppetry, spoken word and others. All ages are welcome, both as audience and performers. Benefit Concert for CSF Music Program
The Southwest Jazz Orchestra presents a benefit concert for the College of Santa Fe’s Contemporary Music Program in the O’Shaughnessy Performance Space at the college (1600 St. Michael’s Dr.) on Sunday, April 6, at 4 p.m. There will be limited seating for this live recording session. Achieving Harmonious Living Spaces
Body presents Ann Marie Holmes, author of Earth Spirit Living: Bringing Heaven and Nature into Your Home. Book on Bataan Death March
In commemoration of the beginning of the Bataan Death March (April 9, 1942, with tribute events statewide), we celebrate New Mexico historian/author Nancy Bartlit’s book Silent Voices of World War II, which recounts stories of New Mexicans critical to winning the war in the Pacific: soldiers on the Bataan Death March, Navajo code talkers and Manhattan Project scientists. Hundreds died valiantly fighting to preserve democracy for the world. Bartlit illuminates history and what those WWII heroes teach us about today’s military conflicts. April Events at the Village at Eldorado Shopping Center
The Farmers Market reopens on April 18th. It will be open every Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot in front of Brumby’s restaurant or, in bad weather, in Building A. At the April 25 market, Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico will have its mobile health van on site from 2 to 6 p.m. On Saturday, April 26, a spring arts and crafts show will take place both indoors and outdoors from 11 to 4 p.m. Vertical Ventures’ rock-climbing wall will be on site at the April18 and 26 events. Free Prostate Screening
The Cancer Institute Foundation is offering a free prostate screening for the community on Saturday, April 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Cancer Institute of New Mexico, 490-A West Zia Rd. in Santa Fe. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling (505) 946-3388. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men; early detection is the key to prostate health. Annual screening is recommended for all men over age 50, men over 40 with a family history of prostate cancer, and men of African-American descent who are over 40 years of age.

Tropic of Capricorn Hosts Diana Bryer
Espanola Valley artist Diana Bryer brings her vivid art to Tropic of Capricorn for a show opening on Sunday, April 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. Diana’s show, entitled "Mother/Son Sojourn," features new works of oils and mixed media. Her son Simon will join her with his rustic birdhouses made of recycled wood. 2nd Annual Qi Fair
