A Time for Change
hat a difference a year makes. . . . Only a year ago it felt as if copublishing
and coediting Sun Monthly was still our "dream" job. Then, just a few months before our 12th anniversary
of producing the magazine (previously El Dorado Sun) with utter dedication and excitement, something shifted for us -- we found
ourselves both feeling ready to move on in different directions.
We’re now pleased to announce that we have sold Sun Monthly to Richard Rogers and Alena Hart, a creative, hardworking couple who are full
of enthusiasm and appreciation for the magazine’s quality, values and content. Formerly from Dayton, Ohio, where they lived for
three decades, they were regular visitors to Santa Fe for a quite a number of
years and built a home in Eldorado two years ago. Previous to moving here full
time in December, they had had a regular subscription to Sun Monthly, following Santa Fe stories and keeping a pulse on our community from back in
Ohio.
In what must be one of the true Santa Fe synchronicities, just about the same
time last fall as when we sat in the business broker’s office discussing selling the Sun, Richard had just finished reading our latest issue and said to Alena, "You
know, when we move to Santa Fe we should buy this magazine." Less than a week later, they were sitting in the same broker’s office inquiring about possible businesses to purchase. When he told them that
Sun Monthly had just been listed with him, both Richard and Alena felt as if the finger of
fate had entered into the picture, pointing directly at them. As they say, the
rest is history.
Over the next couple of months, we will be training Richard and Alena in all the
specifics of publishing Sun Monthly. We see this change as a dynamic and opportune time to redirect, refocus and
renew. May we all use this moment to thoughtfully reflect upon where we’ve been, where we are and where we wish to be.
We offer our deepest thanks and appreciation to all of you for your support and
interest over the years. Bringing this magazine into the world each month has
been an extraordinary privilege and opportunity for us -- one that we will
always cherish. We both look forward to the next chapter of our lives and wish
the best of luck to Richard and Alena, the Sun’s newest and no doubt, most successful publishers.
Thank you, Eldorado. Thank you, Santa Fe. Thank you, New Mexico.
